COMMENCEMENT CELEBRATION DRIVE-THROUGH GUIDELINES

Graduates had to RSVP by May 5, 2021. Please see the listing of grads.

VEHICLE REQUIREMENT AND SAFETY PRECAUTIONS: 

ONLY one vehicle per graduate will be allowed.  The graduate must be in the vehicle in order to enter the campus parking lot.  HPD will turn away any vehicle not abiding by the guidelines

 

The vehicle must be enclosed (car, truck, van, SUV) and all passengers must be inside the vehicle’s cab and wearing seat belts.  Trucks with a bed are allowed; however, passengers may NOT be in the bed of the truck.

 

Two-wheeled vehicles (mopeds, motorcycles, etc) will NOT be permitted to ensure the health and safety of all participants.  

 

To keep traffic flowing, the graduate must be a passenger and not the driver.  The stages will be on the right side of the vehicle. 

DRESS ATTIRE: 

Cap, gown, and footwear are required. Please purchase your cap and gown at the Leeward CC Bookstore.  Business casual attire is recommended under the gown. Check the website for information on how to prepare before the Ceremony.  Only approved PTK, PBL, Honors Program, and Veteran hoods and stoles may be worn in addition to the cap and gown. The Kīhei is an approved regalia for the Ke Ala ʻIke Scholars Program. If it is not listed below then it is not approved including program-specific regalia. 

Masks are required and will be given to each graduate at check-in. Lei wearing will not be allowed on the stage.

 

STAY IN THE VEHICLE: 

All guests must remain in the vehicle at all times while on campus. Only the graduate will be allowed to exit the vehicle when it is their turn to be on stage.  

There will be one restroom entrance available at the E-vehicle charging station lot. For pedestrian safety, cars will need to drive into the designated restroom parking area before utilizing facilities. Be aware, you will lose your place in line. Your return will be moderated and mandated by Leeward CC staff or HPD. 

DECORATING THE VEHICLE

Vehicles may be decorated however materials must be secure and no items may be left or disposed on campus or on roads. 

PROHIBITED CELEBRATORY ITEMS

The following items will not be allowed: 

  • Noisemakers such as air horns 
  • Confetti
  • Balloons 
  • Gifts for faculty:  We appreciate the thought but please do not bring gifts for faculty in attendance. 

 

SPEED LIMIT AND VEHICLE SAFETY

HPD will be monitoring all entrances and exits. The maximum speed limit on the campus for the Celebration is 5 MPH.  All vehicles must stay in line and follow the queue.  For everyone's safety, please maintain one vehicle length between yours and that in front of you.  

SERVICE ANIMAL

No animals will be allowed except for Service Animals for graduates only. They must be pre-approved through the Commencement RSVP form. Check-in personnel will have a  list of graduates with accepted accommodations. Cars with non-approved animals will be turned away.
